How did you start playing music?
I took piano lessons from my great grandmother when I was about five. I didn’t stay in lessons too long though. I did band in 6th grade – clarinet. That didn’t last long either. Choir in middle school. I loved choir. I didn’t play in high school at all. But in college I took a guitar class with this amazing classical guitarist. I was a total disaster on guitar. I think he passed me because he felt bad for me (it was a pass or fail class). I put the guitar under my bed for about 3 months and then my friend Jeremy (an amazing guitarist) taught me how to play “Jane Says” by Jane’s Addiction. As soon as I started being able to change chords I started writing songs. I also took a voice class in college. It was amazing! This was the first time I ever sang a solo in front of anyone! I sang Judy Collins “Since You Asked”. My second solo was Carol King “So Far Away”. I also traveled to London during this time to study for a summer. That trip was an amazing experience for exploring music. Both with concerts and making music with my friend Sara. We used to sit out on this soccer field and play guitar and sing together. Soon after that I joined my first band “Hansel & Gretel”.
Best concert ever:
Mojave 3. Not that the concert was crazy or anything. The music was just dreamy!
What is your day job:
I own my own branding and communications studio.
Hobbies:
Reading. Listening to music.
